Visual description

Marion Bolton's Portrait of a Woman fills a vertical sheet of paper. A brown-skinned figure against a bold red background, she is depicted from her mid-torso to the top of her head. She leans slightly to her left, looking directly at us with intense, wide eyes, each drawn in an oval shape with short black vertical lines indicating upper and lower eyelashes. Her eyes have brown irises and black pupils, above which sit thin, arched eyebrows. Her face is brown, a bit darker than the skin of her neck and chest, which is visible beneath an off-white blouse worn over an off-white v-neck shirt. Her mouth, just above her oval chin line, is closed, and her brown lips, the same shade as her skin, are pressed together in a neutral expression. There is no indication of her nose. The figure's shoulder-length black hair is soft, with no visible part line, flowing over her forehead and down the right side of her face to just below her chin. On the left side of her face, her hair is pushed behind her ear and comes to rest just below her left shoulder. A dangly blue-green earring is visible in her left ear. Her off-white blouse is worn open, with its notched collar framing the v-neck shirt beneath. The blouse's open edges run down to the bottom of the paper. Her v-neck shirt has two small black buttons on the left side of the neckline. There are three dark horizontal black lines just below the V, perhaps indicating a pattern on the shirt, or maybe a brooch or necklace.
