Visual description
In this work 18 inches high and 11.5 inches wide and presented in portrait orientation, we see a page filled with multiple images. On the right edge of the paper there is a magazine image, placed just above center. It again is in portrait orientation and measures approximately 8 inches high by 4 inches wide . It shows a man dressed in a dark coat and pants, white shirt with a red tie. He stands with his back up against a wire railing with a whitetop bar. He facesforward with his right foot on the ground, his left foot on the center railing, arms outstretched to his sides. He gives the impression he is in motion singing. The background of the image is indistinct, so we don’t know where he is, however it is shown in black and white. It appears the artist is recreating the magazine image, inflecting his own feelings into the drawing. Using black ink, he draws a human figure duplicating the stance of the man in the magazine in outline form. This figure fills two thirds of the vertical page and is placed to the left of the magazine image. The body is drawn in outline form facing left. His right arm outstretched with stubby fingers depicting the hand, right leg is placed to the right of the body with the left stitched out to the back as if in a walking pose. Overlayed on the line drawing of the man are numerous squiggly lines on the head and upper torso perhaps indicating the tie, and multiple lines on the legs indicating movement. Interestingly there are two red blocks just above the torso and on the lower edge of the face which are very difficult to decipher. Contrary to the magazine image our artist has filled the paper surrounding the line drawing of the man with green grass at the lower portion, grass continuing up around the man and along the left side. Then there are patches of blue that continue around the man and stopping at the top edge of the paper indicating a blue sky. There are various sizes of star like images filled with a bright yellow, representing flowers, that seem to float around the page. Finally there is a single small star like image filled with orange on the left side of the man
